Professional Landscaping Services in Oregon City

I spent my formative years in the backwoods of upstate New York, where I observed the rhythms and cycles of nature and watched the stars appear each night over my quiet corner of the world. After my first job at a golf course, I began landscaping and tending greenhouses. I was struck by the scale, the waste, and the heavy reliance on chemicals in these operations. Seeking something different, I joined a small organic farm near my home, where I had a great time working barefoot, sweating, and watching things grow. I later graduated from college with a Bachelor’s in Education and immediately started a small business that combined my experiences in landscaping, farming, and teaching. Alongside gardening, carpentry, and design, I grew culinary mushrooms for the local market while encouraging passersby to discover the joy of fresh food growing right outside their door. In 2015, I moved to Oregon. Loving the long landscape season, I took a job and stayed—working my way up through three different landscape companies while learning the plants and the industry of the region. During this time, I also studied and taught permaculture and forest gardening across the U.S. and abroad. Sage Landscapes was born from this journey—a way to share my love for the outdoors, fresh food, and backyard ecology. With each project, my hope is that clients discover the same joy in being outside that has shaped my own life.

I grew up in New England, where I was constantly fascinated by living things and the interconnectedness of the natural world around me. I earned my M.S. in Biological Sciences from Virginia Tech, where I investigated complex phytoplankton ecology and became obsessed with good barbecue. A love of excellent food led me to organic gardening, and before long, I was a full-on plant freak. Now, as a landscaper, I am able to combine my ecological knowledge with my interest in design. My favorite projects include edible landscapes, pollinator gardens, and water features. When I’m not landscaping, I’m gardening. On my 0.25-acre plot in SW Portland, I’m developing a small food forest, establishing an ambitious rainbow flower garden, and planting as many trees as will reasonably fit.
