I spent my formative years in the backwoods of upstate New York where I observed the rhythms and cycles of nature and watched the stars come out each night over my quiet corner of the world.
After my first job at a golf course, I started landscaping and tending greenhouses. I was struck by the scale, the waste, and the reliance on chemicals of these operations. So, I started at an organic farm near my house and had a great time working barefoot, sweating, and watching things grow.
I graduated from college with a Bachelor’s in Education and immediately started a small business to combine my professional landscaping, farming, and teaching experiences. Aside from gardening, carpentry, and design, I grew culinary mushrooms for the local market while convincing passerby that fresh food growing outside their door is awesome!
In 2015, I moved to Oregon. Loving the long landscape season, I took a job and stayed, working my way up in three different landscape companies as I learned the plants and the industry here. Throughout all of this, I also studied and taught permaculture and forest gardening around the US and abroad.
Sage Landscapes was established as a way to share my love for the outdoors, fresh food, and backyard ecology. At the end of each project, I hope that our clients will love being outside as much as I do.
